The efficiency of an exothermic autoclave leach process is increased by increasing the retention time of the solids fraction in the feed slurry over that of the liquid fraction. This is achieved by flashing the contents of the first oxidative autoclave compartment to a flash vessel, with the underflow therefrom passing to a thickener and the underflow from the thickener being fed to the autoclave feed tank or any tank upstream of the feed tank. Exothermic heat generated in the first compartment of the autoclave is abstracted in the flashing process. Additionally portions of the overflow from the thickener are returned to the feed tank and fed to the autoclave discharge tank.

L'invention concerne un procédé permettant d'augmenter l'efficacité d'un processus de lixiviation en autoclave exothermique, consistant à augmenter le temps de séjour de la fraction solide de la suspension épaisse d'alimentation par rapport à celui de la fraction liquide. Pour ce faire, ou soumet à une vaporisation instantanée les contenus du premier compartiment oxydant de l'autoclave dans un récipient de vaporisation instantanée, la sousverse du récipient passant par un épaississant et la sousverse de l'épaississant étant fournie à une bâche d'alimentation de l'autoclave ou à n'importe quelle bâche en amont de la bâche d'alimentation. La chaleur exothermique produite dans le premier compartiment de l'autoclave est extraite dans le processus de vaporisation instantanée. D'autres parties de la surverse de l'épaississant sont renvoyées vers la bâche d'alimentation et fournies à une bâche d'évacuation de l'autoclave.
