Liquid, injectable, aqueous solutions are transformed in situ to an expandable foam-like, space filling, and adherent biomaterial. Preferably, the foam-like biomaterial is the reaction product of a two-part liquid system to achieve the in situ formation thereof. The liquid system is generally comprised of a protein solution and a cross linker solution which may either be premixed and then applied to a site in need of the biomaterial, or simultaneously mixed and delivered through an in-line mixing/dispensing tip directly to the site. In especially preferred embodiments, an expandable foam-like biomaterial includes the reaction product of human or animal-derived protein material and a di- or polyaldehyde in the presence of a bicarbonate and an acidic titrant amounts sufficient to impart a cellular foam structure to the material.

L'invention concerne des solutions aqueuses liquides injectables, transformées in situ en biomatériau adhésif de remplissage d'espace semblable à la mousse. Le biomatériau semblable à la mousse est, de préférence, le produit de réaction d'un système liquide en deux parties permettant de compléter la formation in situ de celui-ci. Le système liquide est généralement composé d'une solution protéique et d'une solution de réticulation pouvant être soit prémélangées puis appliquées à un site nécessitant le biomatériau, soit simultanément mélangées et distribuées par l'intermédiaire d'une pointe de mélange/distribution intégrée dans le site. Dans des modes de réalisation préférés, le biomatériau semblable à la mousse expansible comprend le produit de réaction d'une matière protéique humaine ou animale et un di ou polyaldéhyde en présence de quantités de bicarbonate et de titrant acide suffisantes pour donner une structure mousseuse cellulaire au matériau.
