EXPANDABLE HANDBAG AND SHOPPING BAG ABSTRACT A combined handbag and shopping bag of variable volume comprising a flexible bag portion having an inner surface, an open mouth, a closed end and flexible sides is disclosed. An elongated fastener having two mating halves is affixed to the inner surface of the bag. One half of the fastener is affixed at a location in the upper portion of the bag. The other half of the fastener is affixed at a location in the lower portion of the bag. Both mating halves of the fastener are positioned substantially parallel to the open mouth. The volume of the bag is varied by engaging or disengaging the two mating halves of the fastener.
