ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE An expandable hot top for ingot molds comprises two pairs of preshaped end panels with flexible means hinging the pairs of end panels to one another and two preshaped side panels with flexible means hinging the side panels to said end panels so that the two pairs of end panels fold inwardly against each other to a position between the side panels moving the end panels into end-to-end to end relation relation will move the side panels outwardly to form the hot top. Locking bars are then positioned across the inside of said end panels to hold the hot top in expanded open position in the ingot mold. This invention is distinguishable from others by reason of the folding pairs of end panels and their hinged relation to one another and the side panels whereby the four walls of a hot top are formed from a single assembly of hinged parts.
