An item of expandable luggage (10) is provided with a multipositional locking expansion mechanism that includes a lock release actuator for unlocking the expansion plates (40, 60) that is located near or on a handle (72) on the sliding plate (60) situated towards the upper portion of the expandable body for easy accessibility, thereby permitting the user to adjust the inner volume of the luggage storage space when the compartment is fully packed. The extendable gusset (54)is provided with one or more resilient members that retract the gusset into the interior of the luggage when it is not extended.
Selon l'invention, un bagage extensible (10) est pourvu d'un mécanisme d'extension de verrouillage à positions multiples comprenant un actionneur de libération de verrou destiné à déverrouiller les plaques d'extension (40, 60) et situé au voisinage ou au niveau d'une poignée (72) sur la plaque coulissante (60) qui se trouve vers la partie supérieure du corps extensible, d'où une accessibilité facilitée, l'utilisateur pouvant ainsi régler le volume intérieur de l'espace de rangement du bagage lorsque le compartiment est complètement rempli. Un soufflet extensible (54) comprend un ou plusieurs éléments élastiques permettant de rétracter ledit soufflet à l'intérieur du bagage lorsqu'il n'est pas rallongé.
