A multi solvent drug delivery matrix formation method is used to place layers into a reservoir in a stmt in a stepwise manner to achieve extended delivery of water soluble, sensitive, or difficult to deliver drugs. The multi solvent matrix formation method allows the formation of a drug reservoir with a layered morphology in which the mixing between layers is limited to allow the different layers to perform different functions in controlling drug delivery. A stmt having a drug delivery matrix includes a first beneficial agent layer affixed to the stmt by depositing a first solution of a first polymer and a first solvent, and a second beneficial agent layer affixed to the first beneficial agent layer by depositing a second solution of a second polymer and a second solvent. The second solvent is selected so that the first polymer is substantially insoluble in the second solvent to prevent degradation of the first polymer during deposition of the second polymer. A therapeutic agent is provided in the first beneficial agent layer or the second beneficial agent layer to form a drug delivery matrix.

Procédé de formation d'une matrice servant à administrer un médicament sous forme de solvants multiples, qu'on met en application afin de positionner des couches dans un réservoir d'un extenseur de manière progressive afin d'administrer de façon prolongée des médicaments solubles dans l'eau, sensibles ou difficiles à administrer. Ce procédé consiste à créer un réservoir de médicament présentant une morphologie stratifiée dans laquelle le mélange entre les couches est limité afin de permettre aux différentes couches de remplir des fonctions différentes dans le contrôle de l'administration des médicaments. Un extenseur pourvu de cette matrice comporte une première couche d'agent bénéfique qui est fixée audit extenseur par dépôt d'une première solution constituée par un premier polymère et un premier solvant et une deuxième couche d'agent bénéfique fixée à la première couche par dépôt d'une deuxième solution constituée par un deuxième polymère et un deuxième solvant. Ce dernier est sélectionné de sorte que le premier polymère soit pratiquement insoluble dans le deuxième solvant afin d'empêcher la dégradation de ce premier polymère pendant le dépôt du deuxième polymère. Un agent thérapeutique est contenu dans la première couche ou dans la deuxième couche, ce qui permet de constituer une matrice d'administration de médicament.
