ABSTRACT Heat expandable particles of a polyvinyl- (idene) aromatic compound contain a blowing agent and at least 0.6 percent of a plasticizer, based on the total weight of the polyvinyl(idene) aromatic compound and the plasticizer. The particles are at least partially coated with one or more glycerides of a fatty acid and/or with an oil. The particles can be expanded and molded to foamed articles. The foamed articles are especially useful as shock absorbing packaging material.
