An expandable reamer (132) for forming a space within a vertebral disc includes a pair of opposing blades (142, 144) which have an expanded state and a retracted state. The blades being pivotally positioned at the distal end of a shaft assembly (140). A shaft housing (136) being substantially disposed about the shaft assembly. The proximal end of the shaft assembly being operatively engaged by a control device (194) which when rotated allows the blades to be fully retracted for insertion into a prebored hole and then to be expanded incrementally until the cavity is bored as desired.

L'invention concerne un alésoir extensible (132) permettant de créer un espace au sein d'un disque vertébral et comprenant une paire de lames opposées (142, 144) ayant un état étendu et un état escamoté. Ces lames sont placées rotatives à l'extrémité distale d'un ensemble tige (140), un boîtier de tige (136) étant disposé sensiblement autour de ladite tige. L'extrémité proximale de l'ensemble tige entre en prise de manière fonctionnelle avec un dispositif de commande (194) qui, lorsqu'on le tourne, permet d'escamoter complètement les lames en vue de leur insertion dans un trou préalablement percé et de les déployer progressivement jusqu'à ce que la cavité soit alésée comme on le souhaite.
