ABSTRACT A body portion (42a, 142a) of a standard type vehicle (40, 140) such as the rear body panel (42a) of an auto- mobile (40) or a side body panel (142a) of a van (140) is pivotally connected (44) to the balance of the vehicle (40, 140) by an accordion folding hood (46, 144). Alterna- tively, an attachment (220) may be used to replace a removed body panel (230) of an automobile (40) or a cor- responding side body panel of a van and is pivotally connected to the balance of the vehicle (40) by an accordion folding hood (46). In either instance the pivoted panel (42a, 142a) or attachment (224) is pivotable to a collapsed position of the hood in which position it defines an original enclosed usable volume for the vehicle which volume is bisected by a diagonal plane extending through the pivot axis for the body panel or attachment. In the extended position of the body panel (42a, 142a) or attachment (224) (FIGS. 3, 14C and 20) the hood and pivoted member define an enlarged usable volume having increased headroom with the volume being generally greater than twice that of the original enclosed volume.
