A variable width bed is provided. In one embodiment the bed has a frame, a deck supported on the frame, and a mattress on the deck. A portion of the mattress on one of head and seat deck sections expands to have an increased width. In an alternate embodiment, deck extender assemblies are provided at the sides of the bed. Each of the deck extender assemblies have supplemental mattresses connected thereto.

L'invention porte sur un lit à largeur variable. Dans un mode de réalisation, le lit se compose d'un châssis, d'une plateforme supportée par le châssis et d'un matelas posé sur la plateforme. Une partie du matelas située au niveau de la section tête ou de la section siège de la plateforme s'élargit pour présenter une largeur étendue. Dans un autre mode de réalisation, des ensembles à rallonge de plateforme sont fixés sur les côtés du lit. Chaque ensemble à rallonge de plateforme dispose de matelas supplémentaires qui leur sont adaptés.
