Expanded articles of biodegradable plastic material are produced by agglomerating expanded particles with density from 0.1 to 0.003 g/cm3 and size from 0.5 to 10 mm of diameter, made of a material comprising: from 50 to 95% by weight of thermoplastic starch; from 0.5 to 45% by weight of at least one thermoplastic polymer; from 2 to 20% by weight of water; subject to a treatment with at least one coating agent in order to modify their surface so that they can steadily interact when brought into intimate contact.
