An expanded resilient product (130) having a plurality of slits formed therein is disclosed. One embodiment has a plurality of slits formed in a resilient material thereafter the material is extended to produce an expanded material which is then bonded to at least one surface in order to retain the expanded nature of the product. In another embodiment, each slit is defined by a first internal surface (170) having a protruding portion (160) and second internal surface (172) having a recess portion (168) corresponding to the protruding portion of the first surface which together form an interlocking fit between the two. Forces are applied to the product to dislodge a protruding portion from the recess portion, thereby forming a plurality of gaps (174). The product is then permitted to relax to prevent the protruding portions from re-engaging the recess portions and thereby maintaining the expanded nature of the product.
L'invention concerne un produit élastique expansé et des procédés pour le réaliser. Le produit est, d'une manière caractéristique, un solide géométrique réalisé en un matériau élastique et il comporte une pluralité de fentes. Une forme d'exécution comporte une pluralité de fentes formées dans le matériau élastique de manière qu'après l'expansion pour produire le matériau expansé, celui-ci soit fixé à au moins une surface, afin de maintenir le produit à l'état expansé. Dans une autre forme d'exécution, chaque fente est délimitée par une première surface interne ayant une portion en saillie et une seconde surface interne ayant une portion en creux correspondant à la portion en saillie de la première surface, les deux portions étant reliées l'une à l'autre par liaison de forme. On applique une force au produit qui est suffisante pour déloger la portion en saillie de la première surface interne du creux complémentaire de la seconde surface interne, en formant ainsi une pluralité d'espacements. On laisse ensuite le produit revenir et, à ce moment, les portions en saillie viennent presser contre les portions en creux complémentaires de la seconde surface interne, ce qui les empêche de revenir dans les portions en creux et maintient le produit dans sa forme expansée. Des procédés de fabrication du produit comprennent la formation des fentes, suivie d'une expansion physique du matériau élastique pour obtenir un produit expansé. Dans le cas de fentes qui ne restent pas ouvertes automatiquement, on peut prévoir une fixation à un matériau additionnel pour maintenir les fentes ouvertes.
