ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A unitary thick walled spacer supports an anchor rod for engagement in an expansion body. The tubular spacer has a first part of greater diameter than its remaining part, with the latter part in sliding fit engagement in the expansion body and the first part abutting, at its free end, a washer and the head of an anchor rod. The annular rim formed between the parts of the spacer is arranged, prior to use, a distance X from the expansion body. As clamping down is performed in a receiving socket, the spacer part slides inside the expansion sleeve so progressively closing the gap X. The arrangement may be so designed that, in any particular application, the rim never comes into contact with the expansion body (or at the most just does so), so avoiding uselessly and detrimentally loading on the spacer.
