-17- ABSTRACT A lightweight ignition distributor employing a hollow tubular plastic rotor driveshaft having a non-circular socket section axially aligned with a like cross-sectionally configured metal driveshaft connected to the internal combustion engine. A compression spring is mounted on a portion of the tubular rotor driveshaft so as to surround a portion of the socket and prevent the cross-sectional dimensions of the socket from expanding at a rate faster than expansion of the metal driveshaft engaged in the socket, due to increased temperatures.
