ABSTRACT An expansion assembly for a rock bolt which includes two axially aligned tubular shell members which have a bolt pass- ing through them. Each shell member has an inclined end and a longitudinal slot in its wall. The members are aligned with the inclined ends facing one another. The members are axially com- pressed by means of the bolt and this causes the inclined ends to ride over one another and the shell members to be enlarged in the radial direction thereby to obtain a locking force.
