The present invention relates to vectors, host-vector combinations and processes for producing stable fusion proteins consisting of a carrier protein and a passenger protein. Expression of the fusion protein results in exposure of the passenger domains on the surface of bacterial cells, in particular Escherichia coli. If necessary, the passenger domains can be released into the medium by proteases, e.g. by selected host factors such as OmpT.
