60557-4001 ABSTRACT An array of energy sources such as light emitting diodes or thermal print head elements is used to deliver energy to a material in accord with supplied image information by selective activation of the sources for predetermined durations. The energisation level of the activated sources is a function of their number and affects their energy output. To counteract the effect of the energisation level the duration of activation of each activated source is adjusted. This can be achieved by a voltage controlled oscillator responsive to a voltage that varies with the energisation level.
