ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE An exposure controller for a variable focus type camera includes a photometer for detecting a subject brightness and a film speed detector for giving a signal corresponding to a film speed. A focal length detector gives focal length information of the variable focus lens and a memorizor memorizes a table storing thereon shutter speeds corresponding to both of film speeds and photometered values with respect to the prescribed focal lengths. A con- troller controls the operating of aperture blades and a shutter in combination in the manner that the most suitable shutter speed is read from the table in the memorizor in accordance with a subject bright- ness information given from the photometer, a changed amount of a focal length information to a prescribed focal length given from said focal length detector and a film speed information given from the film speed detector.
