ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A polymer of ethylene and a minor proportion of an alpha-olefin having six and greater carbon atoms characterized by having an average molecular weight greater than about 200,000 and 7 and greater alkyl branches per 1,000 backbone carbon atoms, each alkyl branch having 4 and greater carbon atom. The branched polyethylene is useful for provision of extended life polyethylene pipe, particularly gas distribution pipes providing lifetimes of at least 2 and up to 10 times the life of presently used polyethylene pipe.
