This invention relates to extended release pharmaceutical dosage forms for orally delivering drugs to mammals, e.g., humans. More particularly, this invention concerns dosage forms of water soluble drugs such as venlafaxine, enantiomeric (R or S) forms of venlafaxine, metabolites of venlafaxine such as 0-desmethyl venlafaxine (ODV) or enantiorneric (R or S) forms of said metabolites which dosage forms have an extended release profile when taken orally. This invention also provides processes for preparing such dosage forms and methods of using them.
