ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A prop for use in reshoring concrete floors and other high-load applications is extendible in length from 10 to 14 feet in its preferred form. The prop includes an upper tubular member and an upper abutment plate welded to an upper end thereof. A lower tubular member is loosely received within the upper tubular member and has a lower abutment plate welded to an lower end thereof. An external screw thread extends along the lower tubular member a distance corresponding to the range of extension of the prop. A wing-nut assembly has an internal screw thread meshed with the external screw thread of the lower tubular member and is configured to support the upper tubular member. The wing-nut assembly is rotatable by hand to extend and contract the prop though its full extension range and is positioned less than 5 feet fromthe lower abutment plate when the prop is fully extended. The materials of the tubular members and their internal and external diameters are selected such thatthe prop has a axial load bearing capacity without lateral bracing in excess of 50,000 pounds at a prop length of 10 feet and a total weight of less than 100 pounds. -13-
