The extendible/retractable portable security barrier comprises an extendible/retractable scissor gate, and first and second self-standing posts made of molded plastic material and connected to respective ends of the scissor gate. The first and second posts are each formed, on the side of the gate, with a longitudinal trough. When the scissor gate is retracted and the first and second posts are brought against each other, the trough of the first post forms with the trough of the second post a cavity for receiving the scissor gate in retracted position. The first and second posts then form a casing for the scissor gate to thereby improve transportability of the security barrier. The posts present the general configuration of an inverted T, and the base of the inverted T-shaped posts is hollow to receive a weight in order to improve the stability of these posts on the ground. Each post may comprise a security perimeter ribbon anchoring system. Finally, the extendible/retractable portable security barrier may comprise a sign-supporting system.
