The present invention provides fibers (e.g. for nonwovens) that have high elongation to break at moderate to low fiber diameters. This is accomplished by spinning splittable multicomponent fibers under appropriate conditions to produce large diameter, low orientation fibers which can then be split into smaller segments that maintain the properties of the parent fiber. Thus, fibers are produced having elongations significantly higher than if a fiber of that same size had been spun directly.
La présente invention concerne des fibres (par exemple destinées à des nontissés) qui possèdent un allongement à la rupture important au niveau de diamètres de fibres modérés à faibles. Il est possible d'obtenir cet allongement important, par filage de fibres à constituants multiples, séparables, dans des conditions appropriées, de manière à produire des fibres de grand diamètre, de faible orientation, qui peuvent ensuite être séparées en segments plus petits qui conservent les propriétés de la fibre mère. Ainsi, on produit des fibres possédant des allongements considérablement plus importants que si une fibre de la même taille avait été filée directement.
