ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The invention provides a length-measuring instrument comprising an outer stand tube and at least one inner tube which can be drawn out of the stand tube telescopically, a scale arranged on each tube, the scale on the inner draw-out tube continuing the scale on the stand tube but extending in the opposite direction, and a clamping device automatically providing a clamping action in any position of the tubes, the clamping device being releasable by the application of an external force.
