A noise-damped extension spring includes a resilient formed-in-place damper within the tubular spring body for damping vibrations of the spring. The damper is formed by placing a solidifiable composition such as heat-expandable foam-forming composition into the interior of the spring body, and causing the composition to solidify so as to form a resilient damper which generally conforms to the inner surface of the spring body. The method preferably includes heating the spring with the heat-expandable composition therein so as to both relieve residual stresses in the spring and cause expansion and solidification of the composition.
