ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE: An exterior window unit for covering an opening in a building wall, the opening having a first sill, said exterior window unit comprising a frame having a second sill, a pair of sashes mounted within the frame in parallel closely spaced planes, mounting means on the second sill attached to a vertical exterior surface of the first sill. The mounting means includes first engaging means extending along an upper edge of the mounting means, a plate member for extending along the length of the first sill, the plate member being secured to a horizontal surface of the first sill. The plate member includes second engaging means extending along an outer edge of the plate member, the second engaging means interengaging the first engaging means along and adjacent to an upper and outer edge of the first sill, and the plate member having a pair of upwardly opening grooves for slidably receiving a further pair of sashes,each of the grooves extending along a length of said plate member.
