A miniature, external cavity, filter-locked laser has a semiconductor optical amplifier, such as a diode laser, and a monolithic prism assembly positioned in the external resonant cavity. The monolithic prism assembly includes a transparent substrate carrying a thin film Fabry-Perot interference filter which is tilted, that is, oriented not normal to the path of the travel of the laser light in the external cavity. Such optical devices can be economically mass produced in advantageously small size, having reproducible spectral performance properties held within tight tolerances. Significantly advantageous applications include dense wavelength division multiplexing systems requiring tightly spaced wavelength subranges for each of the multiple channels. High wavelength stability against temperature and humidity changes, etc., can be achieved.
Un laser miniature à filtre verrouillé et à cavité externe possède un amplificateur optique à semi-conducteur, tel qu'un laser à diode, et un ensemble prisme monolithe positionné dans la cavité externe résonante. L'ensemble prisme monolithe comprend un substrat transparent portant un filtre d'interférence de Fabry-Perot à film mince, ce filtre étant incliné, c'est-à-dire qu'il est orienté dans une position qui n'est pas normale par rapport au chemin parcouru par la lumière laser dans la cavité externe. De tels dispositifs optiques peuvent être produits économiquement à échelle industrielle, de dimensions avantageusement petites, et ont des propriétés de performance spectrale reproductibles maintenues à l'intérieur de plages de tolérances étroites. Des applications particulièrement intéressantes comprennent des systèmes de multiplexage de division de longueurs d'ondes denses nécessitant des sous-plages de longueurs d'ondes étroitement espacées pour chacun des canaux multiples. On peut obtenir une grande stabilité des longueurs d'ondes dans des conditions changeantes de température et d'humidité.
