An exterior counterpulsation (ECP) system. (100) includes a garment (102) for being worn on the exterior of a patient's body. The garment (102) includes electroactive polymer (EAP) (104) actuators connected thereto. In one embodiment, the EAP actuators (104) are woven into the garment (102). In another embodiment, they are mounted to the garment surface.
