The present invention relates to a method and circuit for pre-distorting a signal to eliminate the non-linearities of the input/output characteristics of non-linear stages, and in particular to eliminate third-order non-linearities. More particularly, it relates to a method and circuit for pre-distorting, for external optical modulators of the Mach-Zehnder type. The method for pre-distorting an electrical signal comprises the stages of: - supplying the said signal to at least one distorting circuit; - supplying a current to the said distorting circuit along a first conducting path; - distorting the said signal in the said distorting circuit; characterized in that the said stage of supplying a current to the said distorting circuit comprises the stage of supply a current to a second conducting path parallel to the said first conducting path.
