A method and apparatus for bending tubes particularly suited for bending thin- walled tubing into a tight radius bend. An external sleeve is used during the bending process which maintains the tube cross sectional area and tube wail thickness, thereby eliminating the need for a wiper die or an internal mandrel. In one embodiment the sleeve is split along its longitudinal axis.
