ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A novel externally-mounted, stationary-design, self-aligning rotary face-seal, which is usually fully split is provided for securement to a rotatable member extending through a mounting plate secured to the housing of a particular piece of equipment. The externally-mounted, stationary-design, self-aligning, rotary face-seal includes a rotor, fluid-tightly fitted and secured onto the rotatable member. A stator is provided which is urged into rotatable sealing contact with the rotor by means of a resilient operator. The resilient operator which may be, e.g. a cylind- rical elastomeric energizer or a plurality of pre-loaded compres- sion springs, captured on anti-rotation pins, is disposed between the mounting plate and the stator. By means of the axially-di- rected force from the resilient operator, the stator is pressed into tight, sealing contact with the adjacent face of the rotor. The seal is also designed in such a manner as to utilize the pressure of the fluid or gas being contained in the equipment to create an axially-directed force urging the stator into sealing contact with the rotor.
