Improved devices (1) for blood separations are provided based on the use of hollow fiber membrane arrays (6) in extra-lumenal crossflow filtration. Blood is processed extra-lumenally across an ordered array of microporous hollow fibers (6) to separate cells from plasma. By use of extra-lumenal crossflow filtration with suitably oriented fibers, the separation device is more efficient than existing devices which benefits a patient or donor by reducing extracorporeal volume.

Cette invention concerne des dispositifs perfectionnés (1) de séparation des constituants du sang qui font usage d'ensembles (6) de membranes à fibres creuses pour le filtrage à flux transversal extravasculaire. Le sang est traité de façon extravasculaire à travers un ensemble ordonné de fibres creuses (6) microporeuses dans le but de séparer les globules du plasma. Le filtrage à flux transversal extravasculaire effectué au moyen de fibres correctement orientées permet de concevoir un dispositif de séparation plus efficace que les dispositifs existants, particulièrement avantageux pour le patient ou le donneur, du fait de la réduction du volume du dispositif extracorporel.
