A method and apparatus (10) for extracting energy from flowing fluids using a diffuser (11) which has side walls (14) formed from a series of aerofoil section members (15) with gaps (29) provided between the leading and trailing ends of the members (15) to allow introduction of fluid from outside of the diffuser (11) into the diffuser flow passage (16) such that increased energy can be extracted from the flowing fluid by a prime mover (20) located in the flow passage (16).

L'invention concerne un procédé et un dispositif (10) permettant d'extraire l'énergie provenant de fluides en écoulement au moyen d'un diffuseur (11). Le diffuseur comporte des parois latérales (14) constituées d'une série d'éléments (15) à profil aérodynamique. Des espaces (29) prévus entre les extrémités avant et arrière des éléments (15) permettent au fluide de pénétrer depuis l'extérieur du diffuseur (11) dans le passage d'écoulement (16) du diffuseur afin qu'un moteur principal (20) se situant dans le passage (16) puisse extraire davantage d'énergie dudit fluide.
