A prime mover for extracting power from moving water is described comprising a body which is caused to oscillate in water by reversing the direction of thrust generated by at least one submerged control member e.g. a hydroplane or rotating cylinder protruding from a side of the body. Preferably, the prime mover comprises an open bottomed tank which when it oscillates alternately, compresses and decompresses a fluid inside it between a closed top of the tank and the water surface. Preferably the fluid is air. Other energy removal schemes can be combined with the prime mover to generate power.
La présente invention concerne un appareil moteur destiné à capter l'énergie d'eau en mouvement. Cet appareil comprend un corps qui, dans l'eau, est soumis à oscillation sous l'effet du changement de direction de la poussée d'au moins un élément de régulation submergé, par exemple, une plaque ou un cylindre en rotation, positionné en saillie d'un côté du corps. L'appareil moteur comprend, de préférence, un réservoir à fonds ouvert dont les oscillations provoquent alternativement une compression et une décompression sur un fluide contenu entre la surface de l'eau et la partie haute, close, du réservoir. Le fluide préféré est de l'air. D'autres schémas de captation peuvent être combinés avec l'appareil moteur pour générer de l'énergie.
