A process for the recovery of nickel and cobalt from an acidic resin eluate containing at least nickel and cobalt, said process including the steps of : (a) treating the eluate with an immiscible organic reagent (18) to selectively absorb the majority of the cobalt, and a portion of any copper, zinc and manganese present in the eluate, leaving a raffinate containing the nickel and minor impurities; (b) neutralising the raffinate to precipitate the nickel as nickel hydroxide (19); (c) stripping the cobalt from the organic reagent (22); and (d) recovering the cobalt (23).

Cette invention concerne un procédé d'extraction au moins de nickel et de cobalt à partir d'un éluat de résine acide, qui englobe les opérations suivante: (a) traitement de l'éluat avec un réactif organique immiscible (18) dans le but d'absorber sélectivement la majeure partie du cobalt et tout cuivre, zinc et manganèse présents dans l'éluat en laissant un raffinat qui renferme du nickel et des impuretés mineures; (b) neutralisation du raffinat dans le but de précipiter le nickel sous forme d'hydroxyde de nickel (19); (c) désorption du cobalt présent à partir du réactif organique (22); et (d) extraction du cobalt (23).
