ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE There is described a process for extraction of pro- tein and chromium from tannery wastes. These wastes are made up of hide shavings, hide trimmings and green split skins, which are the wastes of chrome tanned hides. Through the process of the present invention there is obtained high purity proteinaceous hydrolyzates, practically free from chromium, and basic chromium sulphate which can be reused in the tanning industry. The process comprises the steps of washing and mechanically grinding the wastes, alkaline chemical hydrolysis, separation of the iron filings and vacuum filtration of the suspension to separate the soluble polypeptides from the insoluble chromium hydroxide, which are then subjected to separate purification processes.
