Methods of fractionating unmilled psyllium seed husk to obtain a compressible, gel-forming polysaccharide with a reduced gelation rate and improved swell volume. The gel-forming fraction isolated by the present invention is useful for administration to humans to normalize bowel function, reduce human serum cholesterol levels, and regulate blood glucose levels. The gel-forming polysaccharide also exhibits reduced allergenicity as compared to psyllium seed husk.
Procédés de fractionnement de l'enveloppe de graine de psyllium non broyé pour obtenir un polysaccharide compressible formant un gel à vitesse de gélification réduite et volume de gonflement plus important. La fraction formant un gel isolée par le procédé de cette invention est utile pour être administrée à l'homme afin de normaliser sa fonction intestinale, réduire les taux de cholestérol sérique et réguler les taux de glucose dans le sang. Le polysaccharide formant un gel présente également une allergénicité réduite comparé à l'enveloppe de la graine du psyllium.
