An extruded polyolefin foam in thicknesses of at least about 12 mm and greater of improved compressive strength, extensional viscosity, and reduced aging time and a process for making the foam are disclosed. The foam is prepared using a propane blowing agent. The beneficial properties imparted to thicker grade and plank foams by a propane blowing agent can be achieved with up to as much as 75 % by volume of either normal butane or isobutane or both in the blowing agent, depending on the polyolefin selected.
L'invention se rapporte à une mousse de polyoléfine extrudée se présentant en épaisseurs d'au moins 12 mm environ, qui est dotée d'une résistance à la compression et d'une viscosité d'extension améliorées, et d'une durée de vieillissement réduite. L'invention se rapporte également à un procédé de fabrication de ladite mousse. Cette mousse est préparée à l'aide d'un agent d'expansion à base de propane. Les caractéristiques avantageuses conférées aux mousses et aux panneaux mousse de qualité supérieure en épaisseur par un agent d'expansion à base de propane peuvent être obtenues avec des quantités atteignant 75 % en volume de butane normal ou d'isopropane, ou de ces deux composés, dans l'agent d'expansion, suivant la polyoléfine sélectionnée.
