Polyols with at least one primary hydroxy function and at least one other primary, secondary or tertiary hydroxy function in the 2 and/or 3 position are used as additives in concentrations from 50 ppm to 5,000 ppm in order to reduce the acetaldehyde content of extruded products of polyetheylene terephthalate. Sugar alcohols, such as sorbitol, mannitol or xylitol, are preferably used. Additionally, ionic compounds, preferably easily soluble ionic compounds, such as alkali compounds, can be admixed in amounts from 0.05 ppm to 50 ppm. According to the present invention, aqueous polyol solutions are sprayed onto polyethylene terephthalate pellets after polycondensation or after the second polycondensation stage, also known as solid state polymerization, or said pellets are produced through extrusion with a polyol content of less than or equal to 25 percent by weight, pelletized, and admixed as a masterbatch with a polyester prior to processing.
On utilise des polyols possédant au moins une fonction hydroxy primaire et au moins une autre fonction hydroxy primaire, secondaire ou tertiaire en position 2 et/ou 3, en tant qu'additifs en concentrations de 50 ppm à 5.000 ppm, de façon à limiter la teneur en acétaldéhyde de produits extrudés de téréphtalate de polyéthylène. On utilise, de préférence, des alcools de sucre, tels que sorbitol, mannitol ou xylitol. On peut, de plus, mélanger des composés ioniques, de préférence, des composés ioniques facilement solubles, tels que des composés d'alcalis, en quantité de 0,05 ppm à 50 ppm. D'après l'invention, on pulvérise des solutions aqueuses de polyol sur des granules de téréphtalate de polyéthylène après polycondensation ou après la deuxième étape de polycondensation, connue également sous la désignation de polymérisation à l'état solide, ou on produit lesdites granules par extrusion avec une teneur en polyol inférieure ou égale à 25 % en poids, on obtient les granules après l'opération d'extrusion et on les mélange sous forme de mélange maître avec un polyester préalablement au traitement.
