ABSTRACT An improved packing material suitable for use in a gland is provided which improved packing material comprises a sintered blend of PTFE resin and at least one filler material. Rings of the improved packing material can be used as retain- ing rings in a gland to substantially prevent squeezing of a more pliable and soft packing material from the gland under pressure in use.
