A filter element made to fit within a filter element housing, the filter element comprising an extruded open-cell thermoplastic foam having a stucture substantially of cell walls and cell struts, an overall open-cell content of 50 percent or more, an average cell size of 1.5 millimeters or less, and a permeability coefficient of 6 x 10-13 m2 or more, and, optionally, retaining means for the foam, and a method of filtration comprising passing a liquid or gas through the filter element.
Cette invention a trait à un élément filtrant conçu pour loger dans un carter d'élément filtrant, lequel élément filtrant comporte une mousse thermoplastique à alvéoles ouvertes extrudée dont la structure est sensiblement une structure à parois et à traverses cellulaires, la teneur d'ensemble en alvéoles ouvertes étant supérieure ou égale à 50 %, la taille moyenne des cellules étant inférieure ou égale à 1,5 millimètre et le coefficient de perméabilité étant supérieur ou égal à 6 x 10?-13¿/m?2¿. Cet élément filtrant est pourvu, éventuellement, de moyens de maintien de la mousse.
