Linear extruded profiles used in the manufacture of window and door frames, have become the standard in the industry. The current state of the art in applying finishing coatings to the visible surfaces of the extrusion profiles, is a process known as "Capstocking". In this extruding method, a thin layer of molten coloured plastic is applied to the surfaces in a continuous ongoing process, and emerges from the extruder as finished product. This technology was implemented when the cost of materials was considerably less than what it is now, making it an expensive and less than a cost effective process at this time. An economical method of applying finishing coatings to extruded profiles today, is with the traditional spraying process. This is a growing trend in the industry made possible by the development of very durable and versatile water based coatings, specifically engineered to be applied to plastic and non-metallic surfaces. Currently, there are many automated spraying systems on the market, but they do not target the extruded profiles market that has emerged over the last decade or so.
