A process for making a protective and decorative surfacing film comprises extrusion coating a first optically clear layer (10) of uniform thickness onto a smooth surface of a carrier (12). The first layer is cooled and followed by coating with a second layer of pigmented material (22). The composite paint coat is transferred to a supportive backing sheet or panel, after which the carrier is separated from the paint coat, to expose the outer surface of the first layer as a high gloss surface with high distinctness-of-image, providing a transparent protective outer coat for the underlying pigmented second layer. Coating may be done by extrusion, coextrusion, or solvent casting.
Procédé de fabrication d'un film de surface protecteur et décoratif, qui consiste à produire un revêtement par extrusion d'une première couche (10) optiquement claire, d'épaisseur uniforme sur une surface lisse d'un support (12). On refroidit cette première couche, puis on applique une deuxième couche en matériau pigmenté (22). On transfère le revêtement de peinture composite sur une feuille ou sur un panneau de support, puis on sépare le support du revêtement de peinture, afin d'exposer la surface extérieure de la première couche en tant que surface extrêmement brillante présentant une image très distincte et constituant une couche extérieure protectrice transparente pour la deuxième couche pigmentée sous-jacente. On peut produire le revêtement par extrusion, par coextrusion ou par coulage avec des solvants.
