ABSTRACT It is known to coat winding wires with partly crystalline thermo- plastic material. Unfortunately such coatings tend to crack upon aging and on winding. The present invention seeks to overcome this drawback by providing a method for producing copper winding wires having a thin extruded insulating coating which comprises passing a winding wire through an extrusion head and coating the wire with an amorphous polyether sulphone of the formula Image I wherein Ar is a blvalent phenylene, diphenylene or naphthalene radical or a bivalent radical of the formula Image II wherein Ar' is a bivalent phenyl radical, A is a bivalent radical of the group -SO2-, -CO-, -NH-CO-, -CO-NH-, m is 1 or 2, and n is a whole number between 50 and 150.
