Instead of using the compacting plunger of the baler (10) to unload one or more bales (216, 218) from the bale chamber (18), an auxiliary ejector system (28, 48, 86) may be utilized that enables the operator to select only the last bale (216) for off-loading, or both the last bale (216) and the next-to-last bale (218). A shuttle assembly (28) housed almost entirely within hollow rails (34, 36, 38) of the bale case (22) has a number of ejector dogs (58, 60, 62, 64, 66) that need not all be placed in operating position simultaneously, thus permitting the operator to choose to actuate only those dogs (58, 60, 62, 64, 66) which are necessary to off-load the bale he selects. An inclined bale chute (136) that receives the discharging bales (216, 218) and guides them to the ground may be selectively raised into a folded up transport position using the same power cylinder (48) that drives the ejector shuttle (28).
