A fabric softening composition comprising from 1 to 80% by weight of ester- linked quaternary ammonium fabric softening material comprising a quaternised mixture of mono- di- and tri-ester of alkanolamine in which the tri-ester content of said mixture is from 25 to 50% by weight of said mixture, wherein: (i) when the tri-ester content is from 25 to 30% by weight of said mixture the free amine content of the composition is less than 0.5% by weight on the weight of said mixture, (ii) when the tri-ester content is more than 30% by weight of said mixture the free amine content of the composition is less than 6% by weight based on the weight of said mixture, the composition containing less than 1% by weight of free fatty acid based on said mixture.

L'invention concerne une composition adoucissante pour tissus comprenant de 1 à 80 % en poids d'un matériau adoucissant pour tissu à base d'ammonium quaternaire à liaison ester comprenant un mélange quaternisé d'un mono-, di- et tri-ester d'alcanolamine, la teneur en tri-ester dudit mélange étant comprise entre 25 et 50 % en poids dudit mélange, selon laquelle (i) lorsque la teneur en tri-ester est comprise entre 25 et 30 % en poids dudit mélange, la teneur en amine libre de la composition est inférieure à 0,5 % en poids par rapport au poids dudit mélange, (ii) lorsque la teneur en tri-ester est supérieure à 30 % en poids dudit mélange, la teneur en amine libre de la composition est inférieure à 6 % en poids par rapport au poids dudit mélange, la composition contenant moins de 1 % en poids d'acide gras libre par rapport audit mélange.
