ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A composite fabric serves as the cloth for the sheet forming section of a papermaking machine and compri- ses at least two fabric layers formed by transversely and by longitudinally extending threads. At least part of the transversely extending and at least part of the longitudi- nally extending threads interconnecting the fabric layers are woven both into the upper and into the lower fabric layer. Preferably at the points where the threads pass from the upper fabric layer to the lower fabric layer a portion thereof extends substantially normal to the plane of the composite fabric. The threads bonding the fabric layers together may be additionally interwoven binder threads or may be the structural threads of the upper fabric layers. With this embodiment of the composite fabric the service life of the fabric is prolonged par- ticularly when used in kraft paperboard and cardboard machines.
