FABRIC SOFTENING COMPOSITIONS ABSTRACT Fabric softening compositions are described containing a combination of an anionic surfactant and a complex of certain smectite clays with certain organic amines and their salts and certain quaternary compounds. The compositions provide fabric softening to laundered fabrics during the rinsing operation or can be incorpor- ated into detergent compositions to provide fabric soften- ing through the wash.
