A biodegradable fabric softening composition or article is provided for softening laundry and is essentially free of a quaternary ammonium compound softener. The composition or article comprises a clay carrier, a defined polyphosphonate compound, and a defined PEC which is a fabric softening compound selected from among esters of pentaerythritol, oligomers of pentaerythritol or alkylene oxide derivatives of such esters and oligomers.

On décrit une composition d'assouplissant biodégradable pour tissu ou un article qui permet d'assouplir le linge et qui est essentiellement dépourvu d'un composé assouplissant à l'ammonium quaternaire. La composition ou l'article comprend une couche d'argile, un composé polyphosphonate défini et un composé de pentaérythrol défini qui est un composé d'assouplissant pour tissu sélectionné entre les esters de pentaérythrol, les oligomères de pentaérythrol ou les dérivés d'oxyde d'alkylène de ces esters ou oligomères.
