FACETTED REFLECTOR ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A photocopier has a scanning illumination device for incrementally illuminating an object disposed on an object surface. The scanning illumination device includes a linear light source that is disposed adjacent to the object surface and which has an aperture that defines a portion through which light is directed to a scan strip on the object surface. Operatively connected to the light source is a reflector having its reflective surface disposed in opposed relationship to the aforementioned aperture so as to direct reflective light from the light source to the object surface. The reflector has a number of plain mirror facets, each facet being disposed at a particular angle to a plane normal to the object surface and having a particular surface face length so that each facet face, as viewed from an instantaneous scan line lying on the scan strip, is completely filled with light from the source. Means are provided to effect relative scan travel of the object surface and the illumination system.
